冬が春に対して悪口を言うのですが、それに対して冬が自分自身を褒め称える際に用いた言葉です。
「春が来たとたん、みんな花を摘んだり、薔薇を頭に飾ったり、船に乗りどこへでも好き勝手に行ってしまう、
それに比べて冬とは、
有無を言わせぬ王のようだ。誰も空を仰がず地に目を伏せさせ、終日家に立てこもることもやむなしと思わせてやる。」
と述べます。それに対して春は、「だからこそ冬が去ると人間は喜ぶのだ。春とは名前だけでも美しく、誰もが私を覚え、待ちわび、戻ってくると歓喜する。」と続き、締め括られます。
なるほどな、と感じました。
このお話は、人を非難しているが実は自分自身のことが見えていない、ということが本質にあるのですが、冬の性格がとても人間くさくて面白いなと思いました。
この有無を言わせぬような絶対的な強さと支配力を持った者の中には、自身への厳しい自戒もまあまああるもので、
そこから生まれる秩序と安寧もあるはずなのです。
この冬が、春に対して非難をするのは、自分と相反した人々の幸福と豊かさへの「嫉妬」を感じ、なんともいじらしく人間くさく、こんな人物を描きたいなと思いました。
緑鬼は、「昏沈睡眠（こんちんすいみん）」という煩悩の象徴で、怠惰や眠気を表していて、これを戒めのひとつとして身につけています。
牡丹は百花の王とも言われる花で、冬牡丹という、自ら冬を選んで咲く品種もあります。花言葉は「高貴」と、彼女にふさわしいと思い選びました。
衣装は中央アジアのものを参考にしていますが、リボンの形状や質感などは日本的であったりさまざまです。特定の国こそありませんが、ターコイズの石は古くから身を守るお守りとして重宝されていたパワーストーンで、さらに刺繍は魔除のために施されることが多く、さまざまな意味が込められています。
彼女が存在する世界は危険で溢れていて、厳冬のように厳しく闘う彼女の支えとなっているのかもしれません。
