たとえ絶滅しようとも、自由を求めることをやめてはならない。

たとえ美しくなくとも、誇りを失ってはならない。

たとえ翼がなくても、羽ばたくことを諦めてはならない。

鳥のように気高く生きよう。

あとがき

逆境や困難に立ち向かうテーマを描きたかったので迦楼羅（かるら）と名付けました。

迦楼羅とはインドの神話に出てくる鳥類の王で、騙されて奴隷となった母親を助けるために神々と争い、見事勝利し自由を手にしたとても強い王です。

日本では天狗のモデルとなっています。彼女は鳥天狗かもしれませんね。

迦楼羅は口から炎を吐き、竜を食べ、翼を広げると真っ赤な羽根が336万里にも達すると言われています。とんでもないサイズ感です。

彼女に翼はありませんが、その翼を夕日で表現しています。彼女の背に燃えるような陽が水平線に果てしなく広がっているのです。

また、逢う魔が時（おうまがとき）、魔物や妖怪の類が動き出す時間帯です。妖しく心が焦燥するような空気感を作りたかったこともあり、黄昏時を選んで描きました。

そして鷹は自由のシンボルであり、神の化身や神聖な生き物として祀られることもあります。今回迦楼羅をテーマに決めたとき、鷹も一緒に描きたいと思いモチーフに選びました。

そしてこの女性の被っている帽子はカラスをモデルにしたものです。

このカラスはイソップ寓話の「虚飾で彩られたカラス」をモデルにしていて、大望の象徴として描きました。

大願成就のだるまや、長寿と幸福を願う菊の花を詰め込んでいます。
神が鳥の王を選ぶ際に美しい鳥という条件を出したので、カラスは美しい羽根を拾い集めて自身に着飾るんですが、
それは自身の羽根ではなかったのでカラスは王にはなれなかったお話です。

上辺の嘘や偽りは何の意味もないということを教訓とした物語なのですが、

わたしはこのカラスの野心的でいじらしい行動にとても心を打たれ好感を持っています。
作品の中の彼女は女性で、翼がなく、もしかしたら彼女も自身の望むものにはなれなかったのかもしれません。
それでも諦めず戦う女性の姿を映しだしているのです。

彼女の眼差しから屈しない強さを感じてもらえたら幸いです。

I wanted to depict a theme of facing adversity and difficulties, so I named it Karura（Garuda）.
Garuda was a king of birds in Indian mythology, a very strong king who fought with the gods to save his mother, who had been tricked into slavery, and won his freedom.
Garuda is the model for the tengu in Japan. She may be a crow tengu.
Garuda spits fire from its mouth, eats dragons, and when it spreads its wings, its bright red feathers are said to reach 1.83 million kilometers. It is an extraordinary size.
She has no wings, but her wings are represented by the setting sun. The blazing sun on her back extends endlessly to the horizon.
and In Japan, the evening hours are called “oumagatoki,” the time of day when demons and ghosts begin to move. I chose twilight to depict this time because I wanted to create an atmosphere of mysterious and agitated feelings.

And the hawk is a symbol of freedom and is sometimes worshipped as an incarnation of a god or a sacred creature. When I decided on Garuda as the theme for this piece, I wanted to depict the hawk together with the garuda, so I chose it as the motif.

And the hat worn by this woman is modeled after a crow.

This crow is modeled after the “Bird in Borrowed Feathers” in Aesop’s Fable, and was painted as a symbol of ambition.
It is filled with Daruma dolls of great wish fulfillment and chrysanthemum flowers for longevity and happiness.

When God chose the king of birds, he made it a requirement that the bird be beautiful, so the crow picked up a beautiful feather and put it on.
but because it was not his own feather, he could not become king.
It’s a story that teaches the lesson that lies and falsehoods at the top mean nothing.
but I was very moved by the crows’ ambitious and heroic actions, and I liked them very much.

Her gender in the work is female, she has no wings, and she may not have been able to become what she wanted either.
Still, it is a reflection of a woman who fights and never gives up.
I hope you can feel the unyielding strength in her eyes.
